Route 43 in Columbia County, Georgia. Robert's twin sister, Mildred, died when
they were infants. Robert was raised in Mecklenburg, NC but migrated to Columbia
Co., GA abt 1791.
The following will abstract is from "Early Deeds and Will Abstract, Columbia
County, Georgia"
McCorkle, Robert s/ April 30th, 1838. p/ Sept. 20th, 1839. Heirs: Only son John
F. McCorkle. Son-in-law Jesse Morris. (married Jane McCorkle, Columbia County
Sept. 8th, 1809.) Granddaughter Sally McCorkle. NOTE: My body to be buried beside
that of my beloved wife. Exrs. John F. McCorkle, Wit: Joseph Ansley, Joseph Howell
and Lucinda Ansley.
The following excerpt of the obituary for Robert is from "Associated Methodist
Georgia Conference Minutes, 1830 - 1850" on microfilm and almost unreadable.
The Revd. Robert McCorkle, the subject of this memoir was born in McKlenburg
County in North Carolina near the Waxhaw settlement in 1768 and removed to Columbia
County, Georgia in 1791, and soon after embraced religion and married Sally Shields
who was then a member of the Meth. E. Church, which he also joined, and acted
as Classleader much of the time till 1825, when he was licensed to preach....Richard

Robert MCCORKLE and Sally SHIELDS were married about 1793 in Columbia County,
GA.23 Sally
SHIELDS was born on 14 Dec 1774. She died on 1 Nov 1831 in Columbia
County, GA.21 One source
states that she died in Dec 1834 but her grave marker states that she died 1
Nov 1831. She was buried after 1 Nov 1831 in Columbia County, Georgia.24 Buried at the cemetery located
at the former site of the Repbulican Church on Route 43 in Columbia County, Georgia.

"Here lies the remains of Sally McCorkle.
She was born Dec. 14, 1774
and died Nov. 1, 1831
She was a member of the Methodist Church for 47 years adoring the doctrine and
